I change my oil regularly 5-10k. Replaced air filter regularly and and perform all general maintenance .  Changed plugs at around 100K miles.  Have intake manifold gasket leak that causes oil leaking. Not terrible but usually needs about a qt of oil in between oil changes to keep full. Yesterday car started very rough then dies after 30 seconds and very rich smelling gas like exhaust fumes after it dies. NO check engine light visible on dash when starting. Can restart the car but happens again. Just changed with OEM spark plugs again b/c I felt the car running a little rough recently but did not help.  But when i changed plugs the plug positioned closest to the battery was pretty wet with oil.  The other 3 plugs looked fairly good (no oil) for 50K miles (since last plug change) and a car that is 10 years old with over 150K miles on it.  Oil may be coming from the intake manifold oil leak but dont know for sure.  It has been running good - just 6 months ago took a long 16 hr drive (from GA to TX) and got 38 mpg per the on board readings. Don't have a diagnostic tool but may borrow/buy one and plug it in to see if i get any codes??
Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

It isn't a good idea to keep driving the vehicle for tens of thousands of miles with intake manifold gasket leak.

You should get an OBD adapter and scan for codes, its doesn't cost much and works on most vehicles.

Ok yes the intake manifold leak started maybe a couple years ago and i plan to get that fixed. Question - can the obd scanner diagnose codes if there are non showing on the dash when i started the car or if the car is off?  Also could the problem be a bad COP -maybe at the plug which had oil on it?
Thanks VM for your response

Check MAP sensor, upstream O2 sensor, and of course replace the gasket.

Your head gasket may also be leaking. Check for any signs of coolant in the engine (milkshake color oil in engine), and also check for oil in the coolant bottle.

I flushed and replaced the coolant about 16 months ago and at that time it was "good".  Good point though and i will check the coolant now again.
Thanks for your response.
