I have a July 2019, BMW X5, when it works, Apple Carplay wirelessly, is fantastic, the problem is that it is very unstable. For example, crossing under a freeway gantry plays havoc with the connection, it causes calls to drop out, WAZE to reset and scramble,  and/or music to stop etc.. It will sometimes randomly reset itself and revert to the in car system.

I have friends and work colleagues with exactly the same problem, the BMW dealer acknowledges the problem and yet, there is no fix. Of course the in car BMW system works fine, but the voice command and recognition is inferior and does not provide voice to text or allow any of the Carplay features. They should enable one of the USB ports to support Apple Carplay, my research suggests that the cable connection is extremely stable in all makes of cars. Do you know if BMW has any plans for a fix. I wouldn't buy a BMW again simply for this reason, I love everything else about the car but in 2021 you the basics to work. At the very least, providing USB connect option would be reasonable.

There is no news on BMW planning to offer CarPlay via USB. Last update to the BMW operating system was in June 2021 over the air worldwide. BMW works in mysterious ways. Its the only automaker that made Apple CarPlay a yearly subscription, at-least they wisened up in that case and made CarPlay free.
