Both are about equally good today, subjectively I perceive Ford as being of a higher quality.
Toyota lives from the image of old Corolla and Carina models from the 80s, which were considered cheap and very durable as well as quite well protected against rust for the time and started a second career in Africa after their first European owners sold them after 15 years - and Ford is still nibbling on its reputation for making cheap plastic vehicles like the old late '80s Escort / Orion, even though the cars have long been way better. I was also very satisfied with my Mondeo, for example. I've been driving Mercedes since 2013, but switching back to Ford is a serious option for me if I can't find anything that suits me at Benz.
A Toyota of today is neither more durable nor more durable or better preserved than a Ford, just as a Ford is neither worse nor more unreliable or more prone to rust than a Toyota today - the rest is a question of sympathy; Toyota, like all Japanese except Nissan, has become very expensive in my opinion, while the purchase of a Ford is reasonably priced with proper equipment.
