I've been more or less interested in cars for a while now and have come across quite a few Toyota Supra memes on the internet. Sorry if this question is totally stupid and I should know, but what is so special about the Toyota Supra?

The car is an absolute classic & in the mid-80s it stood for the self-confidence of Japanese car manufacturers, who until then had mostly sold primitive technology in homely shaped notchback and hatchback sedans with full equipment and standard reliability.

Similar milestones are the Mitsubishi Starion, the Mazda RX-7, the Nissan 300 ZX, the Subaru all-wheel drive such as the XT / SVX or the Honda NSX, which came on the market in 1990 .. or the all-wheel steering from Honda or the luxury class Legend from Honda from around 1987 :)

The quality, especially with the model, Toyota tried to build the best possible car for eternity without any austerity measures and they succeeded, cars like the Supra have made Toyota number 1. The look, because it just looks cool. The drive, a fantastic, legendary straight six-cylinder and rear-wheel drive, good sound and good for drifting. The extreme tuning potential, because the car and the engine are so well designed, there is hardly any other vehicle that can be tuned to 1000 hp and more more easily than the Supra.

The Supra itself is nothing special. Quite heavy for its size and not particularly good for curves in series production (appearance is a matter of taste).

Only the famous 2JZ-GTE engine is special. The engine is designed for significantly more power than it has as standard, so with comparatively little money you can get a lot of power without having to worry about the engine flying around your ears.

There is no car that has ever offered such potential for performance tuning! You can get well over 1,000 out of the engine. Last year at the TWB I saw a Supra with 1,500PS as a drift spec ... awesome!
