Cannot use Spotify on Android Auto

I bought a new phone, a Xiaomi Pocophone F1. I downloaded Android Auto and it works when I connect the car to the phone. However, I cannot use Spotify, the message then appears:

"Spotify doesn't seem to be working right now."

Any advice?

Do you use the Android Auto app on your smartphone yourself or do you have a car where Android Auto is integrated and the mobile phone is connected for other functions?

It looks like the Android Auto app opens the Spotify app in the background and plays music via the Spotify app. The Android Auto App only has buttons for controlling and no integrated playback function.

Does Spotify work on its own without any problems on the device?

Linking Google and Spotify accounts didn't help either. But I found out that it works if I delete the cache in the Spotify settings immediately before connecting the car and mobile phone, for whatever reason.
