The difference is clearly noticeable. The 323i E46 works better at low engine speeds than the 320i E36. But the E36 has a small advantage: the ratio from first gear to second gear is better. It pulls between 20 and 50 km / h 320i a little bit better, but this small advantage is practically unimportant in a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h, it only comes into play with an experienced driver.
