As soon as I drive faster or increase the volume, the bass switches off from the radio. How can you get around that?

BMW 318i, E46, year of construction 2002.

As soon as I exceed 50 km / h as an example, the bass switches off. If I go below again, the bass automatically switches on again.

It is very likely that this is the speed-dependent volume control that my old seven (1997 E38 ) also had with the original factory radio "BMW Business RDS" (cassette). Can you turn it off if it bothers you? I mean, that was done by pressing and holding the "Loudness button", which is appropriately marked "LD" on the original radios of older BMWs.

When it comes to radios from other manufacturers' accessories, however, I am overwhelmed; a look at the instructions should help.

That has to do with ELC (equal loudness contour).

If the volume was increased, the sound signal would become too bass-heavy, sound uncomfortable and unnatural - even incomprehensible with speech.

Particularly annoying with voice messages.

I assume that otherwise there will be high voltage peaks when you drive faster and have turned up the bass.

As a result, too much current would be drawn and the control units would no longer be adequately supplied.

It is best to install a capacitor and a new power amplifier (not from BMW).
