We bought a car today. The engine has a constant hum it does not go away. The previous owner says he always treated the car with care, but he had the humming right from the start and it wouldn't have caused him any problems. Now I wonder what that could be. Before I go to the workshop, I would like to ask you for advice.

In addition, a lack of acceleration can be felt, so, according to my father, a loss of power and high consumption.

Could it be that the BMW is getting bad air?

I had a Twingo that also had a hum that was noticeable over the whole body.  Ultimately, we found out that it was the gearbox that was defective. Except for the hum, I drove 25000 miles with it without any problems.  A mechanic recommended that liqui molly (mos2 additive) should be part of the gear.  In fact, it got a lot better with it, but not entirely gone.

This engine shouldn't actually hum at all (in-line six-cylinder). The entire exhaust system is actually very durable on this model, as nothing tears or rusts off or in. I would rather see if something is resting on the engine and transferring the noises to the body.

This can be a cracked elbow or a leaky flexible pipe. It wouldn't be the first BMW from the year in which I encountered the problem. A cracked manifold would be extremely expensive. Let's hope it's the flexible piece of pipe.
