Aiways U5: the small electric SUV will arrive in Europe in July 2020

The Aiways brand will finally start European marketing of its small electric SUV called U5 this summer. And more precisely in July. Its expected to be launched in these countries initially: Germany, Switzerland, Norway, the Netherlands and France. Its price is not yet known, but should not exceed 40,000 euros in its most extensive version.

The European electric car market, and certainly French, will benefit in a few weeks from a new brand: Aiways. The Chinese manufacturer should indeed start marketing the U5, the small SUV that has been talked about for a few months now. The global coronavirus epidemic has dampened the firm’s ambitious schedule.

The Chinese website Auto Home reports that the first European units of the Aiways U5 will be sold from July in Germany, Switzerland, Norway, the Netherlands and France, five countries where sales of electric cars are higher than among their neighbors and where the government has granted some aid for the purchase of a vehicle fitted with this type of engine as part of an assistance plan for the automotive industry.

The price still not been announced!

Even if the pre-orders of the Aiways U5 started in April, several information is still not known about the car. In particular its price, when purchased or leased, as well as the different formulas proposed for the battery. However, the brand said last March that the amount requested would not exceed 40,000 euros in fully equipped version. This will be rather aggressive. It is not impossible that Aiways thus participates in a democratization of electric vehicles, a bit like Honor or Xiaomi in mobile telephony.

The Aiway U5 will be equipped with a 65 kWh battery and a 140 kW engine (equivalent to 187 horsepower) for a WLTP range of 250 miles, a little over 400 kilometers. Fast charging is not announced, but half an hour would be enough to recharge the battery from 30% to 80%. The list of options includes semi-autonomous driving assistance, the 12.3-inch touch screen, the panoramic roof, air conditioning or the opening at the foot of the boot.
