1000 Horsepower Jeep Gladiator demonstrates its capabilities in the desert

A special Jeep Gladiator from Hennessey Performance Engineering tuning studio gets a 6.2-liter supercharged engine with power output of more than 1000 horsepower.

The American tuning studio Hennessey published a video that shows the capabilities of a substantially modified version of the Jeep Gladiator pickup with an engine producing a hefty 1000 horsepower. The off-roader can be seen driving along the sand dunes in the video posted on YouTube.

The special Jeep Gladiator, dubbed Maximus, debuted at the end of last year at the SEMA tuning festival in Las Vegas. Hennessey engineers replaced the 3.6-liter engine with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 Hellcat engine with a new radiator, an improved fuel system and stainless steel release. In addition, the tuners used another electronic engine control unit.

The engine, acting together with a specially tuned eight-speed automatic transmission, develops monumental 933 lb-ft (1264 Nm) of torque. The vehicle is capable of accelerating from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds.

Hennessey will make just 24 units of the Jeep Gladiator Maximus. Prices for this 1000-strong pickup truck, the production of which has already begun, will start from 225,000.
